Time Out for a Message from Me
I wanted to post some thoughts on what I see as a very disturbing trend in today's society. Our kids today are growing up in a society filled with fears and not being taught how to be self reliant. Today , I challenge each of you to go out in the town you live in and find kids playing outside. You will have a hard time. I have for the last 6 months asked kids why don't you play outside all the while. The answer across the board was our parents won't let us go to parks and stuff because they are afraid for us. Is this true , so I started to ask parents and it was true. We have put forth the images of child abductions, etc. to the point , Parents want their kids behind locked doors. I live in one of the safest places in America , with a history of doing great things for kids and the community. But, even here kids are afraid. Why is that? Because they are no longer allowed to tussle on the playground, "bullying" is the great sin in schools, so no one ever learns how to fight against a bully. Our Churches meet one day a week and really have no events just for kids and especially not for kids from on the street. If we do not allow our youngsters to see real life and deal with real life in a controlled atmosphere when they are young and we can be watching. Then when they leave the house and go to college who will be there for them then.
So I am asking for some help with this lack of self confidence in kids abilities to function in today's society. First we as a Church family ( all denominations) must come together and start having things to do during the week for our kids. In my day we had church softball leagues, church basketball leagues, etc. So why can't each church put together some activities and meet and form an area wide church youth organization that sponsors things like above and a youth gaming team league, an area wide youth choir that performs special events 3-4 times a year, a local youth camp for the summer where they are with people we all know and trust, a bible knowledge team league , and host movies , shows, concerts in churches throughout the community for kids and adult and both together at times.
Well this starts with each church being willing to work together without thought of denomination or pastors prestige. So, to start this I am asking that beginning in May , each Sunday we all ring our Church Bells or sound our horns at 9am each Sunday as a statement to the world that we are one faith and God lives and we are joined in following him .
Please pass this on to your pastors and ask them to be part of this movement to bring the Church into it's rightful place in our lives and our communities.
Thanks Chuck
