How do I begin
How do I begin to tell someone of my love for the Savior , I think it should begin in the beginning. When I first heard of Jesus I was a little boy and it all sounded so old. Like a bad late night movie, who could do all these things and then let himself be captured and killed? Jesus didn't sound like much of a superhero. But as I continued to listen to stories in Sunday school and at home. I found out about how he walked on water, and made water into wine. I found that he did things not because he could but because he wanted to help someone. But I couldn't figure out why was he helping these losers, they weren't important or even likable.
Then as I got older and I saw people who were Christians and I would see them do these nice deeds for no real reason other than to be nice to some one, I began to understand . You see Jesus isn't about what he can do or what he can get you to do. He is about the act of love he has for you being completely selfless. He has not unseen motive to help you or save you from harm. He does it because he genuinely loves you. It took me into my late 20's and 30's to truly understand that this type of love is the epitome of love and that although we try very hard to reach that , we may never be that true in our feelings. Then you realize that Jesus has to be lord as only he could be that pure of heart.
Then the act of allowing himself to be captured and killed and then rise again becomes perfectly clear. He was showing us what pure love was and how we were so far from it. He showed us that he gave his life willingly and on purpose for us to be able to get to heaven just by believing in him. Parents do wonderful things for their children and many people die trying to save others , but no one would plan to die and be tortured to show their love to someone.
For this is why I love the Lord , he gave it all for me and I can only do my best to be like him to some small extent. I can withstand ridicule and discrimination, laughter and pain, heartbreak and sorrow for someone that loved me enough to take this all willingly to give me the gift of eternal life.
If you have never experienced that feeling of selfless love , just pray to Jesus and he will give it to you willingly and freely, that is his promise from the cross and it lives today.
